Jean Johnson, lawyer, ddlaw, dhanu dhaliwal law group

Sharing her skills and trial experience to the benefit of her clients.

Jean obtained her law degree from the University of Kerala, India, in 2020 prior to moving back to her birthplace, Muscat, Oman, where she assisted in various commercial arbitrations. She moved to British Columbia in 2022 to pursue further education.

As the first in her family to pursue a legal career, and the first to move abroad, she faced challenges that pushed her independence and adaptability in ways she hadn’t expected. Those experiences now shape her approach to both her work and her relationships with clients.

After completing her Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Law Enforcement Studies, she obtained her Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation. In 2024 Jean began her legal career in Canada as an articling student at DDLAW.

Upon being called to the bar recently, she has been practicing primarily in family law matters and while building her portfolio in immigration, civil, and wills and estates matters. Jean’s family practice comprises of all areas in family law, including parenting issues, interjurisdictional disputes, relocation, property division and support issues. She has litigation experience in court and represented clients in mediations, while advocating for and prioritizing the children and the well-being of the entire family.

Fluent in English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi, and able to read and write in Arabic, Jean is committed to serving clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her approach is balanced, she is compassionate and collaborative, yet unwavering and determined when necessary. Above all, Jean’s goal is to help her clients move forward with confidence and peace of mind. Jean believes true resolution is not about who “wins”, but about the healing journey.

Outside of her practice, Jean enjoys travelling and is an avid baker. She is currently returning to a regular fitness routine, with the long-term goal of completing a marathon someday. Evenings at home are spent with her partner and two cats, who serve as her reluctant audience while she unwinds with true crime documentaries. She has recently developed a passion for health and wellness podcasts but also plans to spend more time at the library exploring fiction, with a soft spot for Danielle Steel and Julia Quinn’s historical romances.
